Combined intensive course and study trip 

"The EU's Partnership and Associations Policies in Eastern Europe" 

12/31 May - 7 June 2014, Kyiv/Berlin/Jena/Brussels

TRACK I: B.A.-level students with intermediate German- and English-language knowledge

TRACK II: Other students and alumni with advanced English-language knowledge

The program consists of three parts: an intensive study class "European Foreign and Security Policy" at Kyiv, and two study trips for social science and law students to Berlin, Jena and Brussels. All three parts are open to all interested students. You can participate in all three parts, or only in selected parts of this three-stage program. For the TRACK I students visit to Germany, you need to have at least some knowledge of German-language (B 1-level or above). Please, note that TRACK I students (German and English) will receive significantly more travel funding than TRACK II students (English).

Part I -           Course at Kyiv:                    12 - 23 May 2014 (TRACKS I and II)

Part II -          Visit to Berlin and Jena:      31 May - 3 June 2014 (TRACK I with German)

Part III -        Visit to Brussels:                  3 - 7 June 2014 (TRACKS I and II)

 

Programme outline:

12-23 May 2014 (TRACKS I and II): The first English-language part will take place in Kyiv and introduce students within a compact course to the Common Foreign and Security Policies of the European Union. (Mandatory part for Mohyla political science first year Master students)

31 May - 3 June 2014 (TRACK I): The second German-language part constitutes a three-day study trip to Germany, and includes visits to the German Bundestag, European Council on Foreign Relations and a local EU funded project in Thuringia. (Only for students with German language knowledge) 

3 - 7 June 2014 (TRACKS I and II): The last English-language part of the study trip will take place in Brussels/ Belgium. The students will visit national and international institutions of the EU and NATO.

The program will offer a variety of occasions to discuss with German and international lectures and practitioners the challenges, possibilities and limits of the EU's external relations, esp. with regard to the ENP.

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS FOR THE TWO DIFFERENT TRACKS


TRACK I: German-speaking B.A. Students going to Germany and Brussels 31 May - 3 June 2014 (10 places) 

With the kind assistance of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the European Parliament, we can offer ten partial travel-bursaries for German-speaking B.A. students who are considering to enter the Jena-Mohyla double Master program in German and European studies, after finishing their B.A. See http://www.des.uni-jena.de

You may or may not take the compact pre-course on "Foreign and Security Policy of the European Union," at Kyiv. We would encourage you to take this English-language Master-level course, but it is not obligatory.

Funded parts:

·         Accommodation in modest youth hostels (dormitory with shared rooms and facilities) in Berlin, Jena and Brussels.

·         Partial transportation costs for travelling from Kyiv to Berlin and from Brussels to Kyiv (e.g. a return flight): 225€ reimbursement per person.

·         Train trips from Berlin to Jena and from Jena to Brussels

·         Possible visa costs

Not funded:

·         Travel insurance

·         Meals in Germany and Brussels

·         Transportation within Brussels

·         Personal expenses

If you are a German-speaking B.A. student and would like to join the group visiting Jena, Berlin and Brussels, please send your brief application (CV, German-language proficiency certificate, Statement of Purpose, scan of your main passport page), until 16th April 2014, to the e-mail addresses dsg.naukma(at)gmail.com, and ukraine(at)boschlektoren.de.

The application deadline is April 16, 2014.

No applications will be accepted after this date. Please indicate your visa and financial situation in your application, and in which parts of the program you would like to participate on which dates. Once you have been accepted for the program, you can start making your own travel arrangements: flights and travel insurance.

 

TRACK II: English-speaking social science students and alumni, 3 - 7 June 2014

With the support of a small bursary from the European Parliament, we will be offering up to 15 partially funded additional places to go to a study visit to Brussels/ Belgium.

Funded part:

·         Accommodation for 4 nights in a modest Brussels youth hostel (dormitory with shared rooms and facilities) from 3-7 June 2014.

·         Visa: An invitation letter from the European Parliament to apply for a short-term visa with the Belgian Embassy

Not funded:

·         Transport to and from Belgium

·         Travel insurance

·         All meals in Brussels

·         Transportation within Brussels

·         Personal expenses
